The study of osteological findings within their archaeological context.
The excavation, study, analysis, conservation, storage and exhibition of human remains are sensitive issues and must be integrated into the bio-cultural, customary, historical, ethical and of course legal framework of each country. In Greece, osteoarchaeological findings from excavations or other archaeological research constitute ancient movable monuments and are protected by the legislation on antiquities. Given that the excavation of burial complexes (e.g. cemeteries) and Osteoarchaeological findings are a very frequent phenomenon in our country and interest in relevant studies is constantly increasing. We must recognize and promote our osteoarchaeological wealth, but also protect our cultural heritage.
Osteological remains, findings from excavations or other archaeological research, constitute ancient movable monuments and cultural goods and are subject to Greek legislation for the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage.
