The Greek Center for Bioarchaeology was founded in 2022 on the initiative of Dr. Eleanna Prevedorou (archaeologist/bioarchaeologist), who also serves as Administrator.
The Hellenic Center for Bioarchaeology is a scientific, non-profit organization for the study, protection and promotion of osteoarchaeological remains.
Osteological remains resulting from excavations and other archaeological research constitute movable monuments and are subject to legislation for the protection of antiquities and cultural heritage in general.
The main objectives of the EL.KE.VI. mission are:
- excavation, osteoarchaeological and laboratory research,
- the interdisciplinary study in the fields of funerary and environmental archaeology, biological and dental anthropology, anatomy, biochemistry, conservation, exhibition and storage of osteological and organic remains,
- the strengthening, information and promotion of bioarchaeology in Greece and internationally,
- the provision of education and training to all interested parties (students, etc.) and employees in the relevant sectors,
- the creation of modern reference collections and digital archives,
- supporting the work of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ephorates of Antiquities and academic institutions and collaborating,
- the protection of Greek antiquities and the preservation of our cultural heritage.
